OSAKA –
Osaka will launch regular nighttime sightseeing cruises on October 3, offering visitors a new way to enjoy the city’s illuminated waterfront, including the historic architecture of Nakanoshima and the skyline surrounding Osaka Castle.
The new service, called OSAKA NIGHTSTREAM, features two routes covering the eastern and western sides of Nakanoshima, an island at the heart of Osaka’s river network.
An opening ceremony was held on October 1 ahead of the start of regular operations, with Osaka Governor Hirofumi Yoshimura among those attending.
“I hope everyone will enjoy the wonderful nighttime scenery of Nakanoshima and Osaka Castle from these boats,” Yoshimura said.
One of the routes departs from a pier inside Osaka Castle Park and travels to Yodoyabashi Port, allowing passengers to take in the autumn breeze while viewing a distinctive combination of historic Western-style buildings and modern high-rise towers.
The leisurely cruise offers a different perspective on Osaka’s urban landscape, with illuminated buildings reflected on the water creating an atmospheric nighttime setting.
Known as Japan’s “City of Water,” Osaka has an extensive network of rivers and canals that have long played an important role in its commercial development and urban identity.
The introduction of scheduled nighttime cruises is expected to provide another sightseeing option for visitors seeking to experience the city’s waterfront after dark.
Regular operations of OSAKA NIGHTSTREAM will begin on Saturday, October 3.
