HYDERABAD: Allegations of abuse and forced return involving a Hyderabad student at a UK university have raised concern, with student groups calling for action.

Family members of Prasad Reddy, who joined the University of Hertfordshire in London in January 2026 to pursue an MS, said he was subjected to verbal abuse by university officials during a discussion over accommodation on January 30. They alleged he was insulted with derogatory remarks and later forced to return to India.

Despite repeated complaints to university authorities, the family said no action was taken. They claimed the student suffered severe mental distress following the incident. His relatives said he was deeply affected and did not know how to cope with the situation.

After returning to India, his health reportedly worsened, and he was admitted to a private hospital in Hyderabad for treatment related to neurological complications linked to stress. Doctors have indicated that his academic future may be affected, the family said.

Student organisations have reacted strongly, urging institutions in India not to enter into partnerships with the university and advising students against enrolling there.

Leaders said they are in touch with the London Telugu Students Association and plan to pursue legal action. They vowed to continue the fight until justice is delivered, calling for intervention from government authorities.
