AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi alleged on Sunday that backdoor tactics like submitting Form-7 applications seeking deletion of voter names during the special intensive revision (SIR) of the electoral roll were intentionally aimed at disenfranchising legitimate Muslim voters based on their religion. He warned that if the authorities failed to initiate action against the culprits, the city would witness a protest bigger than that being held at Jantar Mantar.
Addressing a public meeting near Golconda fort on Saturday night, Owaisi claimed that individuals affiliated with the BJP and RSS were attempting to have Muslim votes removed from the electoral roll through printed Form-7 applications. He said that he had personally seen such printed applications which did not have details of individuals who were filing them.
On other issues, Owaisi was critical of the bail given to an accused in the advocate Khaja Moinuddin murder case. He said the MIM would never stand with those involved in murder and would always support the oppressed and families seeking justice.
“The accused got bail by bribing the Jail (Chanchalguda) superintendent with `2 crore. Those involved in the murder are conspiring to attack the AIMIM leaders and meetings were held in the jail, with active support of the superintendent,” he alleged. Jail authorities have since dismissed the charge.
He also alleged that attempts were being made to target AIMIM using money and influence, asserting that the party would continue to remain strong.
The AIMIM chief stressed the need for an independent political voice for the community. Responding to the Samajwadi Party’s decision to not join hands with AIMIM, Owaisi warned Akhilesh Yadav “not to cry after the elections”. He citing the Bihar Assembly polls as an example, where he said the AIMIM was falsely accused of fracturing votes after its alliance proposals were ignored. On the political debate around Muslim representation in Uttar Pradesh, Owaisi stressed the need for an independent political voice for the community.
