Packers have return date in mind for Micah Parsons following devastating knee injury

At a moment when many NFL contenders are attempting to shore up their teams before the trade deadline, the Packers are planning on just about the best reinforcement they can imagine.

Micah Parsons, who has been out since tearing his ACL and meniscus in Week 15 of last season, is targeting the Nov. 25, Thanksgiving Eve game against the Rams for his return, according to ESPN.

According to the report, the Packers are expecting Parsons to practice next week and join team drills the following week, which would bring Green Bay to its Week 11 bye.

If all goes well, Parsons would be able to suit up for the following week’s game on that Wednesday after missing just two more contests.

With Parsons’ return, the Packers’ defense would be adding one of the game’s best pass rushers, a superstar who has racked up at least 12 sacks in each of his five NFL seasons.

Parsons was exactly what Green Bay envisioned last year, when they pulled off the blockbuster with the Cowboys and immediately signed Parsons to a four-year extension that could be worth as much as $188 million, as he then was a menace for 12 ½ sacks in 14 games.

But he tore up his knee against the Broncos on Dec. 14, requiring surgery and beginning a rehab process that could be completed about 11 months later.

Without the 27-year-old, the Packers have been solid if not excellent. Green Bay sits in last in the jumbled and stacked NFC North at 5-3, behind the Vikings (6-0), Bears (5-2) and Lions (4-2).

The Packers have won four of their past five games, holding their opponent under 21 points in each game in the span.

They lead the NFL in sacks (22) and takeaways (15), most recently bullying the Panthers for six sacks and an interception of Bryce Young during a 27-19 win Thursday.
