Everything has its pros and cons. So does AI. Although the use of AI can be fun and even useful at times, slowly, it’s invading people’s privacy and causing problems that can only harm us further. One such serious issue is what quite many celebrities are facing these days, when people use technology to morph their images without their permission.

This breach of privacy and the use of morphed pictures without the consent of the individual involved have led many, including Salman Khan and Amitabh Bachchan, to seek protection of their personality rights.

Recently, in a shocking turn of events, a new controversy has taken over the internet. It was found that the Bollywood actress Alia Bhatt was promoting a Pakistani clothing brand, which the brand shared on its social media. Wajayesha official is a Pakistani clothing brand that recently took to their Instagram account and posted a series of pictures with a caption that read, “EVEN ALIA BHATT LIKES OUR PURE SHEESHA SILK COLLECTION!!” where the Bollywood actress, Alia Bhatt, was seen wearing the brand’s clothes, promoting their brand. Hence, the brand had morphed Alia’s pictures and changed her outfits with the help of AI without the consent of the actor.

Soon after the pictures had surfaced on the internet, fans started slamming the brand. One of them wrote, “She will sue you!”, while another fan wrote, “This is fake ai cheap marketing”. However, the brand, being least concerned about their actions, reacted to the comments, saying “Viral karein, please, ki unko bhi pata chal jaye.”

More about personality rights

Personality rights refer to an individual’s legal entitlement to control the public and commercial use of their identity. This rights help to provide safety to protect individual attributes that are uniquely linked to a person, such as their name, image, likeness, voice, signature, or even trademark catchphrases, from being exploited without their consent.
