Dindigul:The rope car service at the Arulmigu Dhandayuthapani Swamy hill temple in Palani, suspended since July 20 for annual maintenance, will resume on September 22 (Tuesday), according to the temple administration.
The two-month suspension had caused considerable inconvenience to devotees, who had to depend on the electrical winch service to reach the hilltop. The winch service witnessed heavy rush, particularly during important days.
As part of the annual maintenance, all components of the rope car system were thoroughly inspected and overhauled. A new shaft, costing Rs. 3 lakh, and a new gearbox, costing Rs. 10 lakh, were procured from Kolkata and installed, the temple administration said. Ten new rope car cabins, costing Rs. 30 lakh, were also purchased.
Following completion of the maintenance work, a trial run was conducted on September 16. Each cabin was tested by placing 250 kg of stones in it to assess the performance and safety of the system.
The rope car system was found fit for operation following the trial and will be reopened for devotees Tuesday, bringing to an end the two-month suspension, the temple administration said.
