Visakhapatnam:Agriculture minister Kinjarapu Atchannaidu has announced that a special survey panel will be constituted to investigate the reasons for the growing incidence of kidney diseases in Thotada village of Santabommali mandal.
The minister made the announcement while distributing NTR Bharosa social security pensions door-to-door in the village on Monday.
He said a team of experts would conduct a detailed study to determine whether contaminated drinking water or any other environmental factor is responsible for the kidney ailments affecting local residents.
Atchannaidu said the government is committed to resolving drinking water issues in rural areas. He noted that the chief minister has sanctioned Rs 620 crore for a project to provide safe drinking water to every household in villages across the Tekkali constituency. Of this amount, Rs 100 crore has already been released.
Criticising the previous government for neglecting village development, the minister said that after the present government assumed office, a blacktop road was constructed from Kotabommali to Thotada village. Around `72 lakh has been sanctioned under the MGNREGS for development works in Thotada and Balarampuram villages.
The minister said the government has distributed pensions worth `65,000 crore to 6.5 million beneficiaries over the past 24 months. The government, he said, is implementing its Super Six election promises with sincerity while simultaneously pursuing welfare and development initiatives.
The minister also announced that women would soon receive coupons enabling them to obtain up to three LPG cylinders annually without the inconvenience of paying first and waiting for reimbursement.
