The Tamil dark comedy, Parimala and Co by director, Pandiraaj is now available for streaming on Zee 5. The film stars Jayaram, Urvashi and Mysskin in lead roles. The plot revolves around a family whose lives take an unexpected turn after the mysterious death of a troublesome neighbour. However, if you skipped the final few minutes of Parimala and Co, thinking you would get a grand unmasking of the killer, there is a high chance you missed the entire point of the climax.
Spoiler Warning!
Who killed ‘Varghese’ in Parimala and Co?
For those unaware, ‘Varghese’ (Sandy Master) tormented the family so much that they could not help and jokingly discussed what it’d be like to kill him. Just like they wished, ‘Varghese’ did end up dead on Diwali night, leading to a police investigation. Although this kicks off a classic whodunit, the film does not wait until the final scene to reveal who the killer is.
The film confirms before the climax that it is one of the younger members of the family who struck the fatal blow on ‘Varghese.’ Interestingly enough, once the adults find out about this, the exact identity of the killer stops mattering to them. Parents, ‘Parimala’ (Jayaram) and ‘Suthandhira’ (Urvashi), make no efforts to take their child to the police station. Instead, they decide to cover up the whole thing.

At this point, one might expect a cat-and-mouse game between the killer and the cops. However, Parimala and Co focuses more on the rot inside the house as they begin trying to keep the secret.
The climax of Parimala and Co is quiet and suffocating as they try to accept their new reality. Mysskin, the cop in charge of the murder investigation, constantly keeps his eyes on the family. He plays the fool when he eats their food and jokes around with them, but the threat that his presence brings can be felt the entire time.
Eventually, ‘Parimala’ decides to take charge of the narrative. With the authority that he has over his household, he orchestrates a complex web of lies. Soon, all the members in the family become accomplices in a major criminal cover-up. In this way, the title of the film, Parimala and Co, also takes on an ironic meaning as the story reaches its end. They can no longer be viewed as just a family.
The film’s ending does not provide a clean escape. While the family is not caught by the police, they are no longer as free as they were before the murder. It also leaves the audience with the uncomfortable realisation that the real punishment for the family is the paranoia that the family is deemed to live with forever.
Parimala and Co X reviews
Those who have already watched Parimala and Co took to social media to write their reviews of the film. While some loved the film, others complained about it being a waste of a talented cast. For instance, one X (formerly Twitter) user wrote, “Parimala and Co wastes a talented cast in an utterly clueless movie. #Jayaram and #Urvashi play a couple that gets involved in a ‘Drishyam’-like murder. For a while, the film looks like a spoof. Then, it gets all serious on us and becomes a PSA about the horrors of drugs. The result is a random mess that just cannot decide what kind of movie it wants to be.”

Another user wrote, “#ParimalaAndCo is now streaming on OTT! It was a delightful watch in theatres, & even on a second watch after its OTT release, it remains thoroughly entertaining. The humorous situations, the hilarious interrogation confusions, and the thrilling moments with climax twist come together perfectly to keep you engaged throughout. A perfect family entertainer and a great pick for this weekend!”
