Pat McAfee is getting a special alt-cast for Super Bowl 2027

Pat McAfee is bringing his alternate football broadcast to the NFL — including the Super Bowl.

The ESPN personality announced Friday on “The Pat McAfee Show” that his “Field Pass” broadcast will be featured during Super Bowl 2027 on Feb. 14 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif.

The show will also cover select “Monday Night Football” games this season, starting with the Commanders visiting the 49ers on Oct. 19.

“There was a little bit of a pipe dream that maybe if we have a little bit of success with this field pass with college, maybe with the relationship that ESPN has with the NFL that we could do some field passes for NFL games, ‘Monday Night Football’ games,” McAfee said.

Analyst and former quarterback Dan Orlovsky will join McAfee and his crew for the NFL broadcasts, while ex-linebacker A.J. Hawk will continue participating in the college football version.

The “Field Pass” format will feature McAfee and other commentators stationed near the field, providing live reactions, analysis and commentary throughout games.

Unlike a standard TV broadcast, the presentation places its commentators alongside the action as opposed to being in a broadcast booth.

McAfee had previously been joined by Hawk, Darius Butler and various guests during college football broadcasts.

The alternate broadcast made its debut during the 2024-25 College Football Playoff semifinals.

Its broadcast of the Rose Bowl between Indiana and Alabama earlier this year averaged 2.4 million viewers.

Super Bowl 2027 will mark the first time ESPN will produce the NFL championship game since becoming a rights partner with the league.

The traditional broadcast will air on ESPN and ABC, with the expectation that Joe Buck and Troy Aikman will call the action.

ESPN also plans to offer a separate “ManningCast” featuring brothers Peyton and Eli Manning.

McAfee, a former Colts punter, already appears on ESPN’s “College GameDay” and joined the network’s “Monday Night Countdown” pregame coverage this season.
