ESPN analyst Dan Orlovsky apparently didn’t pay attention in math class.
The former quarterback, who got his bachelor’s degree in general studies from UConn in 2017 after leaving for the NFL in 2005, shared during “The Pat McAfee Show” on Monday how he learned about how percentages work earlier in the day from ESPN producer Paul “Hembo” Hembekides.
“So Hembo this morning was like, ‘Joe Burrow, his sack rate is four percent.’ And I said, ‘Dumb this down for me. No human’s going to hear me say that and I’m going to make them smarter,’” Orlovsky said. “And he goes, ‘Well, what do you mean?’ I said, ‘What does that actually mean?’ He goes, ‘Out of every 100 drop-backs, he’s getting sacked four times.’ And I said, ‘Is that really what it is? It’s always out of 100?’”
Warning: Graphic language
After the math lesson, McAfee and the rest of his crew were stunned when Orlovsky unveiled the news.
“Holy f–k,” McAfee said. “That’s tough, dude. That’s a tough one. Especially with how much you talk about stuff that revolves around percentages.”
McAfee had a parting shot for Orlovsky after leaving the set.
“Really don’t know how you do life and how you’ve gotten this far,” McAfee said. “Proud of you, man. Way to go, dude. You defied all odds.”
The revelation surprises those who follow Orlovsky, who previously said he is a fan of numbers.
“I always loved math as a kid. I was always a numbers person. I think that one of the things that I guess I really enjoy is that I understand football in a math capacity. It’s 11-on-11,” Orlovsky during an appearance on “The Pivot” podcast.
Orlovsky isn’t new to on-camera blunders, having incorrectly criticized two-time MVP quarterback Lamar Jackson for missing offseason workouts when he was clearly in attendance back in April of this year.
This lesson makes people wonder what Orlovsky was up to in the classroom during his time with the Huskies.
