Patrick Stewart passed away on October 28, 2026. In a post on Instagram, his spokesperson said that he died after a “brief and poignant journey” with Alzheimer’s disease and Lewy body dementia. While his death has left many heartbroken, it has also brought his personal life back into the limelight, including his affair with Lisa Dillon, who was nearly four decades younger than him.
Lisa Dillon was hurt by Patrick Stewart calling their relationship a “silly affair” in his memoir
Patrick Stewart had a five-year relationship with Lisa Dillon while he was married to his second wife, Wendy Neuss. The two were allegedly together from 2003 to 2007, and while Lisa spent years defending their love, Patrick called it a ‘silly affair’ in his memoir. In a conversation with The Times, the actress revealed that she felt “upset, angry and betrayed” after reading what Patrick had written about her.Â
For those who aren’t aware, Lisa Dillon and Patrick Stewart remained friends even after their romance ended. However, his memoir ended that friendship. She recalled that she felt it was the most enduring friendship of her life, and that Patrick would always honor her, but the way he talked about her shattered that illusion. She was quoted as saying:
“The impression he gives is that our relationship was very fleeting – that I was a silly affair that broke up a marriage – and he got caught out. But it’s not just about our nearly five years together – this is the most enduring friendship of my life. Or it was. In my heart of hearts, I always felt he would honor me properly if he were to write about me.”

In the same conversation, Lisa Dillon said she was especially upset because the memoir suggested he never loved her. Expressing her hurt, she revealed that an older actor had warned her decades ago that if “you keep saying ‘I love you’ to someone in a play, you can drift into believing the sentiment to be true.” She recalled how Patrick had moved to England for her and said:
“[Stewart] relocated his life from Los Angeles to be with me in England, and we lived together almost immediately. Everybody had to be in the know because we were going to live this mature, loving life together. And I felt very loved by him.”
Lisa Dillon revealed that she always looked back at the time she spent with Patrick Stewart with pride. However, reading what he wrote, “has for the first time made me take on board my age,” and that she can “see my vulnerability in a way that I never have before.” She shared how it was the first time she actually doubted their 39-year age gap and wondered what a then-62-year-old man found attractive about a 23-year-old her.Â
The actress said she heard from Patrick Stewart’s lawyers after contacting him about the memoir. She said he owed her some loyalty, as she has “spent 20 years fielding put-down remarks about” their relationship. She added:
“And then the very man that had the opportunity to cancel that has only added to it. For him not to write anything honorable about our time together is shameful. He has diminished me, both professionally and personally, editing me out of parts of his life.”

What did Patrick Stewart say about their relationship in his memoir?
Patrick Stewart began dating Lisa Dillon months before divorcing his second wife, Wendy Neuss. In the memoir, Make It So, Patrick “grieved” his “non-existent” relationship with his two children, and wrote, “And so, another divorce. I felt stupid and responsible…I had cheated on my wife with a younger woman – again.” He added that just like his affair with Jenny Hetrick, his relationship with Lisa Dillon was also short-lived.
However, despite his successes, he regretted his two failed marriages most. For those who are not aware, Stewart married his first wife, Sheila Falconer, in 1966, and the couple divorced in 1990. He then married Wendy Neuss. However, he began dating Lisa Dillon four months before divorcing the producer. He was married to singer-songwriter Sunny Ozell when he died.
