New England Patriots safety Kevin Byard talked about the composure of third-year quarterback Drake Maye, despite all of the injuries on offense.

Maye won AFC Offensive Player of the Month in October, despite missing multiple starting offensive linemen and top receiving targets. Both interior guards, Mike Onwenu and Alijah Vera-Tucker, have been out with injuries, and the team has also played without star wideout A.J. Brown, Romeo Doubs and Mack Hollins.

Yet, Maye has continued to perform at a high level regardless of the pieces around him.

“I just see the ultimate competitor. It doesn’t really matter who’s out there with the guys. He comes into the facility, he comes into game day with this certain level of calmness where he calms the entire team down. It’s like, ‘Hey, I got this.’ It’s just been a beauty to be his teammate,” Doubs said when appearing on NBC Sports Boston’s Arbella Early Edition.

Maye has become the great equalizer for a Patriots offense still missing multiple pieces.

Brown and Doubs are both still out. Tight end Hunter Henry is banged up, and running back TreVeyon Henderson is away recovering from a mysterious medical condition. Onwenu and Vera-Tucker are still sidelined, forcing the team to rely on reserve guards as starters.

And despite all of that, the Patriots are still in the fight because of their great defense and Maye.
