The New England Patriots are entering the third week of the 2026 NFL regular season trying to end a disappointing streak. They have started every one of their last five campaigns with a 1-2 record.
In order to prevent the same from happening and improve to 2-1 on the year for the first time since their Cam Newton-led 2020 campaign, the Patriots will need to beat another 1-1 squad on the road: the Jacksonville Jaguars, who won their season opener before dropping last Sunday’s game in Denver.

The Patriots, meanwhile, are trending in an opposite direction based on an admittedly small two-game sample size: they lost the NFL opener before rebounding with a win over the Steelers one week ago. Can they make it two in a row? Let’s find out together.

First Quarter
The Patriots won the toss and deferred, putting their defense on the field to start things off. A pair of Jacksonville penalties started them off moving backwards, before Trevor Lawrence‘s attempt to pick up a 3rd-and-8 with his legs was stopped short.

New England‘s offense started with two short gains by Rhamondre Stevenson and TreVeyon Henderson to set up an opening 3rd-and-5. Forced to use a timeout to avoid a delay of game, Maye then connected with Mack Hollins for a 21-yard gain to move across midfield. The following third-down saw Maye’s pass over the middle to Hunter Henry fall incomplete forcing a punt.
Jaguars’ running back Bhaysul Tuten picked up their first first-down of the day getting around the left edge on the ground. New England’s defense then buckled down, as a big third-down hit by Christian Gonzalez following a short completion led to a punt.
Maye found a pair of first downs with his legs and back to Mack Hollins to again move the offense across midfield. They’re facing a 3rd-and-2, Stevenson just picked up enough on the ground to move the chains. As Maye then looked to push it downfield, the ball slipped out of his hand during his throwing motion which led to the Jaguars recovering the fumble.
Second Quarter
An 18-yard completion to Parker Washington on third-down got the Jaguars offense on the move before the run game set them up just outside the red zone. Then inside the red zone, Lawrence found Josh Cameron over the middle for a 12-yard touchdown. | Patriots 0 : 7 Jaguars

Two short gains from TreVeyon Henderson set the Patriots up with a 3rd-and-3, where Maye looked to escape up the pocket and move the chains himself but was brought down for a 0-yard sack.
The Patriots defense generated a much needed turnover, as tight coverage from Jaylen Reed led to a deflected pass which Marcus Jones intercepted.
New England took over at the 21-yard line following the interception. Maye took off and found the end zone with his legs but the score was negated due to a holding call on Morgan Moses. The unit continued to go backwards as Romeo Doubs was called for offensive pass interference. A scramble drill double pass from Efton Chism III to Mack Hollins the short completion to Doubs set up a 3rd-and-7, where Maye extended and just missed a completion in the end zone to Hollins. After cutting into the Jaguars’ lead on the previous drive, the home team fought back on its next possession. Methodically marching 65 yards in nine plays, the defense surrendered a 10-yard touchdown pass to ex-Patriot Jakobi Meyers. | Patriots 3 : 14 Jaguars
Drake Maye and company were in dire need of some momentum on their next drive, and they found it on the second play of the series when Drake Maye hit DeMario Douglas for a gain of 38. The pair nearly connected for another big gain two plays later, but Maye overshot the wideout for an incompletion on 2nd-and-10. Things did not get any better. A defensive holding penalty extended the series on a near-interception, and a Maye fumble on a scramble was recovered by the QB himself. However, he was not that lucky on a 3rd-and-goal from the 2-yard line: trying to hit Efton Chism, he was intercepted in the end zone by Travis Hunter.
Marcus Jones nearly had his second interception of the day on the next drive, but couldn’t come down with the football. Instead, the Jaguars retained the ball on their next possession and tried to add to their lead via 70-yard field goal attempt. The kick came close but ultimately sailed past the right upright to keep the score intact heading into the half.
Third quarter
The Patriots’ first possession of the second half saw the team keep the offense on the field for a 4th-and-1 near midfield. Rhamondre Stevenson hurdled over the line for the conversion, and earned another 15 yards due to an unnecessary roughness penalty against the defense. However, it was more of the same for the offense from that point on: in scoring range once more, it stalled, and to make matters worse saw Andy Borregales miss his ensuing field goal attempt wide to the right from 38 yards out.

The Jaguars started in solid field position after Borregales’ miss and quickly moved into Patriots territory again. They ran into some resistance, but two third-and-long conversions from Trevor Lawrence to Jakobi Meyers allowed Jacksonville to set up shop at the New England 2-yard line. Two offensive penalties in a three-play span did move the team back a total of 15 yards, but it did not matter: Lawrence found Parker Washington on 3rd-and-goal from the 17 for another Jacksonville touchdown. | Patriots 3 : Jaguars 21
Things continued to go downhill on the Patriots’ next drive, with Drake Maye throwing his third interception of the day on a pass intended for Kyle Williams. He did prevent a pick-six with a tackle, but the Jaguars scored an easy 5-yard touchdown on the very next play to add to their lead. | Patriots 3 : Jaguars 28
