Several educational institutions in Tirupati, Chittoor, Nellore, and Prakasam districts remained closed on Friday after Left-backed student organisations gave a shutdown call over the alleged irregularities in NEET examination.
The Students’ Federation of India (SFI), All India Students’ Federation (AISF) and other Left organisations that organised the protests said the shutdown is in support of the students protesting at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi.
SFI leader B. Rajesh said many students took part in the protest demanding the resignation of union Education minister Dharmendra Pradhan. He charged that the centre has failed to address the issues related to the NEET examination.
The students’ organisations demanded that the National Testing Agency (NTA) be abolished, as it has lost the confidence of students. They said state governments should be allowed to conduct their own medical entrance examinations.
