Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Tuesday directed officials to take steps to ensure that nearly 50,000 gram panchayat staff and other contract employees receive their salaries on the first day of every month, on par with government employees. He also instructed officials to replace the existing manual system of disbursing Cheyutha social security pensions through post offices and instead transfer the pension amounts directly into the bank accounts of beneficiaries.

The directions were issued during a review meeting on the panchayat raj and rural development department held by the Chief Minister. Panchayat raj minister Danasari Anasuya (Seethakka) and senior officials attended the meeting. The Chief Minister stated that the state government would specially allocate Rs.50 crore every month for payment of salaries to gram panchayat employees.

Revanth Reddy directed officials to ensure that all employees working in government departments, irrespective of whether they are employed on an outsourcing or contract basis, should receive their salaries on the first day of every month. He warned that any delay, even by a single day, in salary payment would not be tolerated.

The Chief Minister also agreed to restore a provision removed by the previous BRS government, which, according to him, had weakened the financial independence of gram panchayats regarding their own source revenue. He directed officials to amend Section 70(3) of the Telangana Panchayat Raj Act, 2018, so that gram panchayats can deposit their own source revenue into bank accounts instead of treasury accounts.

Revanth Reddy stressed that pensions should reach only eligible beneficiaries and directed officials to streamline the pension distribution process using voter ID, Aadhaar and SEEEPC data. He further instructed that single women should be given top priority in the sanction of new pensions.
