New Delhi: An umbrella alliance of civil society organisations, students unions, farmers’ organisations, minority organisations, under the common banner “People Against SIR’ announced a nationwide protest march on October 23, against the Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, and the alleged manipulation of the electoral process in the country.

The organisers allege that the constitutional position of the Chief Election Commissioner of India has been selected ‘unashamedly’ by PM Narendra Modi and HM Amit Shah to ‘singularly serve’ themselves.

The Key demands of the call for nationwide protests include the removal and prosecution of CEC Gyanesh Kumar, scrapping of the SIR voter rolls, restoration of the deleted voter names to the electoral rolls, repealing the Election Commissioners Act 2023 that gave legal immunity to the Election Commissioners, appointment of a new election commission through fair means, and return to voting via ballot paper.

The organisers said that the decision to hold the protest march was taken after a joint meeting that took place on October 14. The People Against SIR alliance also called on the INDIA bloc to extend their support on October 23 to ensure massive participation in the agitation.

‘Tricolor in Every Hand, Every Street is Jantar Mantar’

Denouncing the Delhi Police move denotifying Jantar Mantar as the designated protest ste in the nation capital, and the CJP leaders including Ashuthosh Ranka and Saurav Das getting arrested for waving the Indian flag in Jantar mantar in an act of civil disobedience, the march organisers have called for people who identify themselves as patriots to take part and conduct foot marches across the country, and to wield the Indian flag, while making every Indian street a replica of Jantar Mantar.
