Perez Hilton’s family have said the celebrity blogger is in a ‘serious but stable’ condition after self-harming in a TikTok live stream
Perez Hilton’s family have issued a statement revealing he is to undergo surgery after sustaining ‘significant blood loss’ during his self-harming TikTok stream.
The celebrity blogger, 48, was confirmed to be in a ‘serious but stable condition’ in the latest update. He has remained in hospital in Florida after police entered his home when he filmed himself brandishing a knife in a disturbing 30 minute social media live stream.
His relatives say the dad-of-three’s treatment will be a ‘long process.’
A statement shared on Hilton’s website read: “Perez’s condition remains serious but stable. He experienced significant blood loss and sustained additional injuries that will require surgery in the coming days.
“His treatment and recovery will be a long process. We are grateful that Perez was able to spend time with his mother and sister yesterday.”
They added: “His communication has been extremely limited and confined to immediate family, medical providers, and others directly involved in his care. He has not communicated with the media or issued any public statements.”
In a previous statement, it was revealed that Perez’s children were inside his home minutes before he posted to social media.
“The events of the past several days have been nearly unbearable for our family. Just minutes before the public livestream incident, Perez’s children, niece and sister were inside the home.
“When it became clear that Perez was experiencing a severe mental health crisis and harming himself, they immediately fled to protect the children from witnessing any further trauma.”
Hilton’s family and team previously detailed how it has been an “incredibly difficult” and “heartbreaking” time for them.
In a statement to media on Tuesday, the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office confirmed they attended a scene of a man “livestreaming acts of self-harm”, but did not name Hilton.
Deputies confirmed the man was alone in the house at the time.
Hilton, whose real name is Mario Armando Lavandeira Jr, rose to fame in the 2000s as a celebrity gossip blogger.
His pseudonym is a reference to Paris Hilton, who was at the pinnacle of her fame at the time of his blogging career.
His caustic attitude towards the stars he covered received criticism at the time, along with his practice of “outing” closeted gay celebrities.
The popularity of Hilton’s blog eventually declined, and he moved into a career in reality television, appearing on shows including Celebrity Rap Superstar and Celebrity Big Brother.
Hilton has three children, a son and two daughters, born via surrogate.
