Sergio Perez has signed a new multi-year contract that will see him stay at Cadillac until at least the end of 2029.

Perez’s original Cadillac contract was understood to have been due to expire at the end of 2027, but the Mexican has extended his deal by two years ahead of this weekend’s Mexico City Grand Prix, live on Sky Sports F1.

The 36-year-old will celebrate his 300th grand prix start this Sunday in front of his home crowd at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez.

“Joining Cadillac Formula 1 team from day one was a project I truly believed in, and extending my commitment feels like a natural continuation of this chapter,” said Perez.

“Building a Formula 1 team from the ground up takes time, relentless work and patience, but the progress we are making together is incredibly rewarding. There is still a lot of work ahead of us and I am fully committed for the next three years.

“I want to thank Dan (Towriss), Mark (Reuss), and everyone at TWG Motorsports and General Motors for the opportunity to build on what we have started together. To every member of this special team, at the track, in the US, the UK, and our fans, thank you for your support and trust. I won’t let you down. Let’s keep pushing!”

After being dropped by Red Bull at the end of 2024, Perez had a year on the sidelines but returned to Formula 1 this year with newcomers Cadillac.

Although he is last in the Drivers’ Championship, Perez has outperformed Cadillac team-mate Valtteri Bottas in their team-mate battle. Bottas also joined the team this year on a multi-year contract, which is understood to run until the end of 2027.

Perez, who is the third most experienced driver on the F1 grid, behind only Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton, will be 39 in 2029.

Earlier this year, Perez joined world No 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler for a round at the Cadillac Championship

Alonso and Hamilton have raced into their 40s and Perez may look to emulate the two former world champions by extending his F1 career.

Cadillac chief executive Dan Towriss said: “On the eve of a special weekend in Mexico City, we’re thrilled to announce that Checo will remain an integral part of Cadillac Formula 1 team for years to come.

“Building a competitive team in F1 is a long-term journey, and securing Checo’s talent and leadership gives us the continuity and commitment we need to build on the strong foundation established in our first year. Together, we are focused on the next phase of our journey, pushing the team forward and making progress up the grid.”
