Phil Collins and Oasis are set to meet at a Hall Of Fame lunch later in the year

Phil Collins says he is relishing meeting up with Oasis at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame – despite Noel Gallagher comparing him to “the antichrist” in the past.

Both Genesis singer Collins and the Gallagher brothers will be inducted into the Hall of Fame in November, alongside the likes of New Order and Iron Maiden.

Despite being criticised by Noel in the past, Collins said: “The inductees have all been invited to a lunch before the ceremony. Which will be interesting, as I’m sure to bump into Oasis.”

Collins, 75, told Mojo magazine his actor daughter Lily has already remonstrated about the band’s criticism of her dad. But going backstage at the Live Earth charity event she spoke to Liam instead of Noel.

Laughing Collins explained: “She went up to him and said, ‘Why do you hate my dad?’. And apparently Liam said, ‘I don’t hate anybody, love’.”

Brother Noel has given Collins abuse in the past, saying the drummer was the “antichrist of music” and going further to say in the Nineties he wanted to have his “severed head in my fridge by the end of the decade”.

However, Collins believes the angst from Noel comes from him once going to a Genesis gig and being “out of it” on drugs and scared when they were performing. Collins thinks the track Mama is the one likely to have haunted him

He told Mojo magazine: I think Mama is why Noel called me the antichrist. But I’m giving him the benefit of the doubt here, and assuming he doesn’t really think I’m the antichrist.

“We’re all sensitive to criticism. But the difference is I sometimes answer back.”

And indeed he has, in 2005 Collins hit back and described Oasis as “rude, horrible… and not as talented as they think.”

It remains to be seen if the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame will be a place the Gallaghers and Collins can make up. Elsewhere on the bill New Order are being inducted and the original band there are also split with bass player Peter Hook now touring with his own band.

Collins also spoke about his health battles of recent years in Mojo magazine. He says he is now three years sober and had crutches by his side during the interview although he said he can walk without them but “it’s better to be safe than sorry”.

When he went last went on tour in 2021, he was unable to play drums, giving this job to his son Nicholas, and performed songs sat down.

He says he won’t be performing at the Hall Of Fame event, adding simply “I’m not match fit” although he also says he is now fully sober and hasn’t drunk for three years.

He could still return to the studio and make more music. He said: “I’ve got this one strong idea that keeps going through my head and another song that’s finished – a ballad written around the time of my last great sorrow. But I don’t have a record company any more. Nowadays you don’t need one, though. You can just put it out.”
