New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday chaired a high-level meeting with top government secretaries, focusing on major economic reforms, policy proposals, and strategic reviews to protect supply chains and the domestic economy from the ongoing West Asia crisis. The key sector discussed in the meeting include finance and economy, commerce, industry and technology, the government said.
According to the sources, several recommendations, prepared by seven secretary-level groups, were taken up in the meeting. The groups were constituted after the Iran-US war to formulate a strategic response. “Each of the seven groups presented their respective recommendations to the prime minister and all recommendations were discussed in detail during the meeting,” the sources said, adding that the deliberations mainly focussed on reform proposals across ministries.
However, the government said in a statement that the prime minister emphasised the need to break both horizontal and vertical silos within the government. “There is a need for the importance of technological self-reliance and building domestic capabilities in critical sectors. I encourage greater participation of young innovators and entrepreneurs in the cybersecurity ecosystem as well,” Modi told the top officials in the meeting.
Highlighting the importance of citizen-centric governance, Modi also said that the people of India must remain at the centre of governance. He reminded that every decision and policy should be guided by the interests and aspirations of the common citizen. “While India is making significant investments in infrastructure, equal priority must be given to developing indigenous technologies,” he said.
Concerned with widespread misinformation in this digital age, the prime minister also stressed a proactive outreach on strategic sectors to counter such misinformation. “The prime minister also underscored the importance of technological self-reliance and building domestic capabilities in critical sectors,” the government said in the statement.
“The growing use of technology must be accompanied by a strong focus on cybersecurity to safeguard digital systems and infrastructure. There is a need for constant vigilance against emerging cyber threats. He called for encouraging greater participation of young innovators and entrepreneurs in the cybersecurity ecosystem and emphasised that it should evolve into a nationwide movement,” Modi said.
Besides, Modi also underlined that energy security is closely linked with national security, economic stability and citizens’ welfare. “India must achieve self-reliance in the energy sector through innovation, diversification and accelerated capacity creation. “The government must always remain youthful, dynamic and forward-looking, continuously adapting to new challenges and opportunities with agility and innovation. Reforms are not merely a fashionable term but a continuous necessity for effective governance. He stressed the need to reform processes, improve work culture and strengthen institutional efficiency,” the government said.
