Victoria [Seychelles]: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday held delegation-level talks with Seychelles President Patrick Herminie at the State House as part of his three-day State Visit to the East African island nation.
The discussions were aimed at further strengthening the longstanding bilateral partnership between India and Seychelles.
The Indian delegation included External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal.
The Seychelles delegation comprised Vice President Sebastien Pillay, Principal Minister and Minister for Fisheries, Agriculture and the Blue Economy Wallace Cosgrow, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Diaspora Barry Faure, and Minister for Finance, Economic Planning, Trade and Investment Pierre Laporte, among other senior officials.
Before the delegation-level meeting, PM Modi and President Herminie also held bilateral talks.
Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister received a ceremonial Guard of Honour at the State House and took part in formal ceremonial proceedings alongside President Herminie, reflecting the close ties between the two countries.
PM Modi arrived in Victoria on Saturday and was received at the airport by President Herminie, several cabinet ministers and senior officials. The welcome ceremony featured cultural performances, including a traditional dance from Gujarat’s Kutch region.
The Prime Minister is visiting Seychelles from June 27 to 29 at the invitation of President Herminie and will attend the country’s Golden Jubilee National Day celebrations on Monday as the Guest of Honour, marking 50 years of Seychelles’ Independence.
On Saturday, PM Modi also visited the Seychelles National Botanical Garden and handed over the India-built Fast Patrol Vessel PS LESPWAR, along with six ambulances, 10 utility vehicles and five laser-guided boats to strengthen Seychelles’ maritime surveillance and Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) patrol capabilities.
The Ministry of External Affairs said the initiative reflects the growing strategic partnership between India and Seychelles, particularly in promoting security and cooperation in the Indian Ocean Region.
