Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Sunday said the delimitation arrow that Prime Minister Narendra Modi tried to fire at the Opposition during elections had boomeranged on him, bringing a big defeat for the BJP-led alliance at the Centre.

Addressing an election rally at Hosur in Krishnagiri district, Stalin said the Prime Minister was indulging in a damage control exercise by accusing the Opposition of blocking women’s reservation but this was not helping him. “For Modi, it is too late. The chapter of NDA was closed on April 17. “We have made you lose in Parliament in which you have a majority. Just think what will happen in Tamil Nadu where the BJP has no address”, the DMK supremo remarked.

“Modi thought that we will let the black law (delimitation bill) be passed carelessly during election time. But what happened was totally different and the people of South India are seething with anger.”

Countering AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami’s allegation that Stalin was watching television while travelling in his car, the Chief Minister said it was not wrong to watch television during car travel but it was wrong to cover one’s face with a kerchief while travelling in a car, referring to the incident when the AIADMK leader went to meet Union home minister Amit Shah before the confirmation of the alliance with the BJP Stalin said a vote for any party other than the DMK alliance would be a vote for the BJP. He said any state in which the BJP entered directly or covertly through regional parties would not develop. Not a single vote of those who are concerned about Tamil Nadu’s welfare should go to the BJP alliance, he asserted. Tamil Nadu was being protected since there was a DMK government, he stressed.

If the BJP came to power, they would stop all the welfare schemes being carried out by the DMK government and their only agenda would be fomenting religious clashes in Tamil Nadu. They tried to create religious clashes in Thanjavur and Madurai and one need not imagine what would happen if they captured power since there were examples in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Manipur, Stalin said.

“There could be many differences of opinion and policies among the parties in Tamil Nadu but none of them would divide the people and induce violence for their gains. But BJP is a destructive force and our state and state parties would not exist if the BJP is allowed to enter Tamil Nadu,” Stalin said. “The NDA will divide Tamil Nadu along religious lines, impose Hindi and make Tamil people refugees without power through delimitation,” Stalin said, :adding Tamil Nadu would be turned into a Union Territory like Jammu and Kashmir and Puducherry.

Stalin charged that the Union government was declining to accept the request of the state government to construct an airport at Hosur betraying the development of the town. He promised to help the marketing of mangoes through branding and provide skill development training for the youth in e-vehicle and electric equipment production under the ‘Naan Mudhalvan’ scheme.
