Vijayawada: Police arrested 15 persons for allegedly running online cricket betting operations and seized ₹2 lakh in cash along with 13 mobile phones in two separate cases in Guntur district.
Guntur SP Vakul Jindal told the media on Thursday that the cases were detected within the limits of Lalapet and Old Guntur police stations.
He said police raided a house under Lalapet police station limits on Wednesday night and found 11 persons involved in online cricket betting through mobile phones. Police arrested all 11 accused and seized ₹1.25 lakh in cash along with 10 mobile phones.
In the second case, police raided a pan shop under Old Guntur police station limits on Thursday and found the accused involved in online betting on IPL matches in various formats. Four persons were arrested and ₹75,000 in cash along with three mobile phones was seized.
Police have taken up further investigation in both cases.
