Hyderabad: People across Hyderabad have raised concerns over encroachment of footpaths by commercial establishments and indiscriminate parking by customers, leading to congestion and obstruction of pedestrian movement.

Several areas, including Sainikpuri and its surrounding colonies, are witnessing footpaths being occupied, particularly during evenings, as customers of eateries, pubs and other outlets park vehicles along roads and pavements.

Ranjana Rudra, a resident of Sainikpuri, said, “Our pavements have been encroached upon. I live on 5th Avenue in Sainikpuri, where road and footpath encroachments have made walking difficult. We have lived here for 40 years, but the problem worsened after the Covid lockdown. Eateries, pubs and fine-dining outlets have taken over the footpaths.” She added, “We personally approached senior police officials and lodged a complaint, but no action has been taken.”

Similar concerns were reported from Hanuman Tekdi at Ram Koti, where roadside eateries have led to vehicles being parked on both sides of the road, affecting movement throughout the day. Swapnika Jaiswal, a resident, said, “These eateries do not have parking facilities, forcing customers to park vehicles illegally on surrounding roads. At times, it becomes difficult even to walk on these roads.”

RP Road, from Ranigunj crossroads to Patny crossroads, has also been flagged for congestion due to vehicles parked along the main carriageway by commercial establishments, including automobile showrooms and other businesses.

Residents said the lack of enforcement has led to continued encroachment of footpaths and roads, affecting both pedestrian access and traffic flow in several parts of the city.
