Hyderabad: Minister Ponnam Prabhakar on Tuesday urged residents to set up the water harvesting pits to ensure ground water recharge and said penalties and double billing for water tankers awaited those who refused to comply. He said the previous BRS government had granted permission for high-rises without assessing whether the existing water supply infrastructure could support them.
He was speaking at a review meeting with minister Mohd Azharuddin and HMWS&SB officials to discuss drinking water supply requirements, sewerage infrastructure, groundwater conservation, and long-term urban water management plans.
Prabhakar accused former MA&UD minister K.T. Rama Rao of his failure to formulate any plan regarding the city’s future water requirements. “Over ten years, the BRS government failed to bring in even a single MGD of water. Now, KTR is playing politics again, claiming that if they return to power, they will provide water 24 hours a day.” He said the government would thoroughly examine relevant factors before granting permissions for high-rise buildings.
