Hyderabad: Minister Ponnam Prabhakar on Wednesday urged farmers not to believe opposition claims about fertiliser shortages, accusing the BJP of attempting to tarnish the state’s reputation. He said the Centre bore full responsibility for supplying urea to Telangana and warned of protests outside the residences of Union Ministers and BJP MPs if adequate stocks were not provided.
Speaking to the media after his Prajalatho Mukhamukhi (Face-to-Face with the people) grievance redressal programme at Gandhi Bhavan, Prabhakar said the entire stock produced at Ramagundam should be allocated to Telangana. “Whether or not the state receives fertilisers, the BJP leadership will be held accountable,” he said, adding that the Chief Minister and other ministers had repeatedly appealed to the Centre for supplies.
He said the Congress would lead demonstrations if the state’s requirements were not met. “Running down the state with false claims will not help. It is the Centre’s duty to supply urea to all states, and only then do states distribute it to farmers,” he said.
Prabhakar urged BJP MPs from Telangana to ensure the state received its share of fertilisers and expressed readiness to meet any Union Minister on the issue. He reiterated that the government was providing farmers with quality seeds free from adulteration and asked them not to be misled by opposition rhetoric.
