Portland State coach Chris Fisk has confirmed that his team had no interest in playing less than a full game against Oregon.
The Ducks blew out the FCS-level Vikings 84-0 on Friday night and set a school record for most points in a single game. Monday, Oregon coach Dan Lanning said that he had twice asked Portland State if the Vikings wanted to play 10-minute quarters in the second half as Oregon led 49-0 at halftime but that PSU had declined.

Oregon’s previous scoring record was 81 points. That came in a 74-point win over Portland State in 2023.
In a statement to the Oregonian on Tuesday, Fisk explained why he didn’t want the game shortened. He was hired as Portland State’s coach in December after the Vikings went 1-11 in 2025.
“We have a lot of respect for Oregon football and Coach Lanning,” Fisk said. “We had been offered 10-minute quarters for both the third and fourth quarters and chose to play the full game. We chose that for the development of our program. We came to play 60 minutes, regardless of the outcome.
“Teaching the kids that we don’t get to run away from hard things was our intent. Portland State University has nothing but respect for the University of Oregon and their football program. They didn’t pay us to come down there and take it easy on us. We’re on to Weber State this week and wish the Ducks well against USC.”
According to John Canzano, Oregon paid Portland State nearly $600,000 for the game. Buy games are crucial sources of revenue for FCS programs and that money can be worth the cost of an expected loss. NCAA rules permit a game to be shortened in the manner Lanning offered if both teams agree.
As the game went all 30 minutes in the second half, Oregon got a lot of players time on the field. Four quarterbacks threw passes for the Ducks, including backup and former Nebraska starter Dylan Raiola and Akili Smith Jr., the son of former Oregon quarterback and No. 3 overall NFL Draft pick Akili Smith. Eight players were credited with at least one carry and 14 players had at least one catch.
