Posillipo books last ticket for Euro Cup Group Stage

Posillipo earned the last available berth for the Euro Cup Group Stage.

The former European champion defeated Vouliagmeni 11:8 in the third round of the tournament at home soil in Naples, securing 2nd place in the group.

Primorac, Apollon, Jug, Barcelona and BVSC finished the qualifications with perfect records.

GROUP A (Aix-en-Provence), Round 3

Galatasaray – Dinamo Tbilisi 14:10 (4:2, 3:4, 3:3, 4:1)

Pays d’Aix – Primorac 8:20 (1:7, 3:3, 3:4, 1:6)

After beating Galatasaray and Dinamo convincingly, Primorac was too strong for Pays d’Aix and cemented 1st place with a + 39 goal difference. Yusuke Inaba scored six goals for the winning team.

Savona defeated Partizan 12:9 in a match that decided 2nd place. The Italians secured the victory in the final 12 minutes. At halftime, Partizan led 7:6. After three minutes of play, the Serbs doubled the gap (8:6). Savona responded with three quick goals, going in front (9:8). Partizan equalized at 9:9 in the 22nd minute. Sabac – Jug 7:11 (2:3, 1:3, 4:3, 0:2)

Enka Spor – White Sharks Hannover 20:16 (5:5, 6:5, 5:4, 3:2)

Jug won 1st place, beating Sabac by four goals. The Croats opened the match with a 2:0 lead and were in front until the end, holding back all Sabac’s comeback attempts. Vlaho Pavlic scored four, and Marko Zuvela scored three goals for the winning team.

Yusa Duzenli scored eight goals to help Enka defeat White Sharks.

GROUP D (Naples), Round 3

Barcelona – Dinamo Bucharest 19:11 (2:3, 5:3, 7:1, 5:4)

Posillipo – Vouliagmeni 11:8 (4:2, 2:4, 3:0, 2:2)

Vouliagmeni took only an opening 1:0 lead against Posillipo, but the game was an even contest for almost three quarters. Posillipo led 5:3 midway through the second quarter, but Vouliagmeni equalized at 6:6 just before the break. There were no goals in the third period for a while. Then came Posillipo’s crucial series. In the last three minutes of the third period, Posillipo scored three goals in a row, building a 9:6 lead. Midway through the fourth period , the hosts widened the margin to 10:6. Vouliagmeni, which was kept scoreless for more than 12 minutes, couldn’t come back.
Zeno Bertoli was Posillipo’s top scorer with three goals. Charalampos Troulos scored three for Vouliagmeni.

Barcelona beat Dinamo Bucharest convincingly to complete the tournament with a perfect record. The Romanians kept up with Barcelona throughout the first half. Just 30 seconds before halftime, the teams were tied at 6:6. The Spaniards took control then. They produced a 7:0 run, for a comfortable 13:6 lead. Taiyo Watanabe led Barcelona with six goals.

GROUP E (Podgorica), Round 3

Terrassa – BVSC 8:15 (0:4, 3:5, 3:4, 2:2)

Primorje – Buducnost 10:14 (2:3, 2:4, 4:4, 2:3)

The battle for 1st place between BVSC and Terrassa lacked excitement, as BVSC rushed to a 6:0 lead in the first 11 minutes. Balint Ekler contributed four goals to BVSC’s victory.
