The conductor of a bus was killed and several passengers were injured after the vehicle overturned while trying to avoid a collision with a milk van in West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district on Sunday, police said.The accident took place on Ramganga Road near Mandirbazar area when the bus was travelling from Dholahat to Lakshmikantapur this morning.
Locals said the accident took place when the bus swerved to one side to avoid a collision with the milk van on a dilapidated stretch of the road and overturned, a police officer said.
The conductor died on the spot, while several passengers sustained injuries, and were being treated at a nearby hospital, he said. The accident disrupted traffic on the road for some time before police removed the overturned bus and restored vehicular movement. Locals and bus operators demanded immediate repair of the dilapidated road, alleging that the poor road condition was responsible for the mishap.
