After opening to positive responses in theatres, Pradhama Drishtya Kuttakkar is now set for its digital premiere on Netflix on October 9. The film will stream in Malayalam, along with dubbed versions in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi.
Directed by Shahad, the Malayalam thriller revolves around four low-ranking police officers who find themselves in a dangerous situation following an unexpected encounter. What begins as a moment of panic soon turns into an attempt to conceal what happened, while a seasoned investigator starts piecing together the truth.
The premise gives the film an interesting spin on the familiar police thriller. Instead of following cops as they investigate a crime committed by someone else, Pradhama Drishtya Kuttakkar puts its central characters on the other side of the investigation. As the officers attempt to stay ahead of the truth, the film unfolds as a battle of wits between cops themselves.
Parvathy Thiruvothu plays Aleena Abraham, marking her first police role in Malayalam cinema. Aleena joins the police force through compassionate appointment following the death of her husband. Though she is initially offered a clerical position, she opts for station duty, a decision that eventually puts her at the centre of an increasingly complicated situation.
The cast also features Vijayaraghavan, Mathew Thomas, Sidharth Bharathan, Unnimaya Prasad, Azees Nedumangad and Vinay Forrt.
A police thriller with a twist
The film’s central conflict stems from the fact that its protagonists are officers who understand the workings of the system they are trying to navigate. They know how investigations unfold, how evidence can be interpreted and how suspicion can close in on those attempting to hide the truth.
That familiarity creates the film’s central tension. As the investigation progresses, the four officers are forced to make increasingly difficult choices to protect themselves, while the seasoned investigator continues to move closer to the truth.
For Aleena, the situation also marks a significant turn in her journey within the police force. Having deliberately chosen station duty over a clerical role, she finds herself confronted with circumstances that test both her professional instincts and her understanding of the people around her.
A strong theatrical run
Released on September 11, Pradhama Drishtya Kuttakkar also enjoyed a notable run at the box office. According to the makers, the film crossed the Rs 50 crore mark worldwide on its 17th day, adding to its theatrical success.
The film has a screenplay by PS Subramanian and Vijesh Thottingal, while Roby Varghese Raj has handled the cinematography. Chaman Chacko is the editor and Mujeeb Majeed has composed the music. Arjun Selva has produced the film under the 11 Icons banner.
With its theatrical run now complete, Pradhama Drishtya Kuttakkar is set to make its digital debut and expand its reach beyond the Malayalam-speaking audience. Its unusual premise, ensemble cast and Parvathy’s turn as a police officer make the film one to watch for viewers looking for a thriller that puts the men and women in uniform under investigation.
