Team Trishna sail their way to Optimist trophy
Hyderabad: Team Trishna Sailing Club emerged champions of the Optimist class team racing event at the 6th YAI Secunderabad Club GMR Sports Youth Open Regatta 2026 on Hussain Sagar Lake, winning a deciding final race against Team Telangana Sailing Association after the two sides could not be separated.
Eight teams contested 36 races over the course of the event, in conditions that gave the young sailors little respite — fresh winds through the morning giving way to squalls in the afternoon, with gusts touching 25 knots.
Team racing is the most tactical format in the sport. Sailors race not for their own finishing position but to manoeuvre the opposing team into a losing combination, and every move is judged on the water by umpires who deliver instant decisions on protests — no post-race hearings, no waiting for results. With races lasting barely 10 minutes, there was no room for error.

SAI officials examine stadia in Hyderabad for Khelo India Youth Games
Hyderabad: As part of the preparations for the 8th edition of the Khelo India Youth Games-2026, to be hosted by Telangana, a delegation from the Sports Authority of India visited Ranga Reddy district on Thursday to inspect key sports venues. The officials visited Saroor Nagar Stadium, managed by the Sports Authority of Telangana and the Sreenidhi Football Academy at Aziz Nagar. The team conducted a comprehensive inspection of the sports infrastructure, training facilities, and amenities available for athletes, technical officials, and visitors.
All-India police judo kicks off
Hyderabad: Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar on Thursday inaugurated the 11th All-India Police Judo Cluster sports competitions being held under the aegis of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) at GMC Balayogi Indoor Stadium in Gachibowli.
Addressing the gathering, the Minister said: “These events bring police personnel from across the country together on a common platform, fostering camaraderie, mutual understanding and a spirit of brotherhood, thereby strengthening national unity.”
Several senior officials, including CISF ADG (South) Padmakar S. Ransiphe, NISA Director and IG Harpreet Kaur Sohi, S. R. Saravanan, ADG, and PIB ADG Shruti Patil, participated in the event.
As many as 1,600 sportspersons representing 36 State Police and Central Armed Police Force organisations will compete in Judo, Wushu, Taekwondo, Karate and Pencak Silat.
