In 2026, virality isn’t just about clout or fleeting social currency. It serves as a launchpad to build a life around what you love. In this series, we talk to creators whose 15 seconds of fame pushed them towards a different path.

Prayag Mishra never meant to start the sassy man apocalypse. He just wanted to make people feel loved. “In such a divisive internet culture that we live in, there’s got to be someone on the internet that just sits with you, shares a little snack and says terms of endearment that aren’t overtly sexual or crazy,” he says. “Something that feels nice and sweet and romantic.” That’s the kind of energy with which Mishra got into the front seat of his car, switched on his camera and started talking to his significant other, Pookie. And in 2023, his videos began to go viral on Instagram and TikTok. Something about his boy-next-door (albeit a sassy one) persona felt like the comfort of being on FaceTime with a close friend. The way he talked was addictive, the way he moved—even more so. Really, it was just the way he acted.

Born in South Delhi, Mishra moved to the USA with his family during the 2008 recession, before settling down in Canada in 2011. Living across different South Asian communities shaped his hyper-online, culturally fluid personality. His source material, however, came from the lushest place to derive your worldview from: Bollywood. “I watched Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani (2023) like two months prior [to going viral],” he laughs. “I became infatuated with Rocky and the way he was. I wanted to express myself in a way that felt natural like that.”

At the time, Mishra was working in sales after being fired from a previous corporate job. “It took me a long time to realise it just wasn’t my thing. I enjoyed speaking with people a lot more than closing deals.” So he began talking and expressing himself relentlessly, just as he started gaining traction online. “There was a period of six months where it was just so rapid and continuous,” he recalls. “I was posting 400 times a month. The biggest day, I probably got six to eight hundred thousand followers in a day.”
