In a tragic incident, a Florida woman’s reckless driving led to the untimely death of her boyfriend. What makes it even more bizarre is that she was pregnant, and, showing no regard for herself or her unborn child, she was allegedly speeding at 100 mph before crashing the vehicle. The woman was identified as 25-year-old Leigha Mumby, and her deceased boyfriend was reported to be 22-year-old Daniel Waterman.

After a two-day trial, the jury convicted Leigha on October 14, 2026. She was found guilty of reckless driving causing serious bodily injury and vehicular homicide in relation to the death of Daniel. Leigha reportedly broke down in court upon hearing the verdict. Read on to learn what happened on the ill-fated day that led to the tragedy.

How did the car crash take place that claimed the 22-year-old man’s life? The convict’s chilling last words to him revealed

Leigha Mumby and her 3-year-younger boyfriend, Daniel Waterman, reportedly had disagreements about pregnancy on the day of the crash, i.e., February 9, 2025. The duo reportedly got into an argument after he learned that she was pregnant and when he got a text from a woman from New York. The argument took place while Leigha was driving, and in the heat of the moment, she allegedly began driving recklessly.

Scared for his life, Daniel tried to escape the vehicle, but Leigha allegedly sped back up and told him, “I don’t care what happens, you’ll get what you deserve.” Those were her final words to him before the crash, which claimed his life. Prosecutors said she was driving 94 mph on Interstate 95 in Flagler County when “she suddenly turned the steering wheel to the left, causing the vehicle to veer off the highway and crash into several trees.”

Both Leigha and Daniel were critically injured, and as per his mother, he went into a coma. Prosecutors stated that Daniel broke his neck in the crash and was paralyzed from the neck down. Daniel once reportedly woke up from a coma and accused his girlfriend of purposely crashing the car. He fought for his life for eight months since the crash, and succumbed to pneumonia on October 8, 2025.

When media swarmed Leigha with questions regarding the tragedy, she claimed that she didn’t recall the events leading up to the collision, but remembered waking up “in agonizing pain.”

What led to Leigha Mumby and Daniel Waterman’s fight? Attorney alleged infidelity

Regarding why Leigha Mumby and Daniel Waterman were having a heated argument, Assistant State Attorney Melissa Clark said the reason was infidelity. The legal counsel claimed that Leigha found out on the morning of the crash that she was pregnant with his child and shortly after discovered that he had been texting another woman. Leigha reportedly lost control when she learned this and called her best friend to talk about it.

The lawyers added that Leigha’s friend didn’t react the way she wanted her to; thus, being hurt, she hung up the call without saying bye. The acquaintance’s reaction reportedly pisses off Leigha more, and the piled-up anger later got to her and led her to crash. Detailing the alleged incident, Melissa Clark told Flaglerlive.com:

“She’s so furious she calls her best friend to vent about it, screaming about Daniel texting with another woman. And when her best friend doesn’t react the way she likes, she abruptly hangs up. That was Leigha Mumby’s demeanor at the time of the crash.”
