The trailer for Prem Keetanu dropped today, and it’s exactly the kind of loud, colourful, chaos-filled college drama fans have come to associate with this genre. Directed by Apoorv Singh Karki, known for Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai and Aspirants, the film marks Veer Pahariya’s another substantial performance with it and it throws him headfirst into hostel life, heartbreak and a messy love triangle.
Set against the vibrant backdrop of Uttar Pradesh and the Delhi-NCR belt, the story follows Veer’s character falling hard for Aafiya Sayed’s Suhani, only to find Aparshakti Khurana’s dapper, swagger-heavy Ranjeet swooping in to complicate things. What follows is a whirlwind of jealousy, banter and bruised egos, with Veer even throwing a cheeky line at Aafiya in the trailer: “Tumhe toh dono laundo ko ghumana hai.” Things escalate enough for the two rivals to get into an actual physical scuffle at one point, before the trailer wraps with a fun nod to Anil Kapoor’s iconic Majnu Bhai from Welcome.
Rakesh Bedi and Nikhil Vijay round out the supporting cast, adding extra doses of humour to an already busy ensemble. The film is produced by Gaurav Verma under the Avanika Films banner, co-presented by Phars Film in association with Bhavana Studios, with music by Sachet-Parampara and a lineup of singers including Armaan Malik, Jubin Nautiyal, B Praak and Papon.
The trailer has already generated plenty of buzz online, partly for its music, and partly because of ongoing chatter comparing it to a certain 2024 Malayalam blockbuster. Veer, however, has been quick to clarify that Prem Keetanu isn’t a remake, positioning it instead as its own coming-of-age entertainer built on friendship, romance and youthful madness.
Prem Keetanu hits theatres worldwide on October 2, coinciding with Gandhi Jayanti weekend.
