The shocking death of Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber‘s 27-year-old son, Presley Gerber, has raised questions about the alleged “rehab” facility in Santa Monica, California, where he had checked in the previous night.
The model’s death is being investigated as a suspected overdose, though the official cause and manner have not yet been determined. Amid the scrutiny, shocking new details have emerged about the recovery residence’s owner, Reza Nabavi.

Records cited by Page Six mention a 2002 incident when a then-25-year-old Nabavi was found asleep inside a vehicle in an area described in official documents as having “frequent narcotic and prostitution activity.” Oakland Police reportedly found a 15-year-old girl inside his vehicle, who reportedly told officers she did not know Nabavi well and was under the influence of methamphetamine at the time.
Police allegedly found methamphetamine, marijuana, a hunting knife, a handgun, and ammunition during the search. Nabavi pleaded no contest to misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance in May 2002 and was sentenced to 36 months of probation. Later that month, he was arrested again after allegedly agreeing to sell methamphetamine to an informant. He faced another misdemeanor no-contest plea and an additional three-year probation term.
His criminal record later affected his attempts to become a licensed psychologist in California. In September 2004, the California Board of Psychology denied his application for registration, citing his criminal conviction, controlled-substance use, and allegations of unprofessional conduct.
Nabavi eventually became registered as a psychological assistant in January 2006. His registration was revoked but stayed under probationary conditions that included psychological evaluation, workplace notification, weekly monitoring by a licensed psychologist, participation in a drug and alcohol recovery program, ongoing treatment, and random testing.
Later, in December 2006, Nabavi was registered as a psychologist, but his probation was terminated early in May 2008. His current license is listed as expiring in June 2028.
The facility where Presley Gerber died was not a rehab, but a sober home
Nabavi worked as director of family services at Promises Malibu from June 2006 to May 2011 before founding Resolutions Living in 2013, along with Resolutions Therapeutic Services. The facility where Gerber died has also come under scrutiny because of how it is classified.
California Department of Health Care Services told Page Six that Resolutions Living appears to operate as a sober living or recovery residence rather than a licensed residential substance-use-disorder treatment facility. As a result, the state agency said it is not subject to the same licensing requirements that apply to licensed treatment centers.
TMZ similarly reported that California agencies do not license or regulate the residence as a traditional rehab facility. The company’s website had described the property as a structured recovery residence.” After Gerber’s death, some wording on the website reportedly changed, and a staff page was removed.
Sources cited by TMZ claimed Gerber appeared to be under the influence when he arrived and suggested he may have needed detox treatment rather than placement in a sober home. That account has not been established as an official finding by authorities.
Santa Monica police are reportedly investigating whether Gerber accessed drugs at the facility and, if so, where they came from. Entertainment writer Rob Shuter reported on his Naughty But Nice Substack that a former patient at the facility claimed drugs were readily accessible there.

Gerber was reportedly found unresponsive around 9:35 a.m. on September 20, 2026. Officers performed life-saving measures, but he was pronounced dead about ten minutes later. Page Six reported that Gerber went into cardiac arrest before his death, citing 911 dispatch audio. A witness also told the outlet that police, firefighters, and ambulances responded to the scene.
The publications also noted that Presley did not appear sober when he arrived at the facility around 10 p.m. on Saturday, September 19. However, the reports do not establish what substance he may have taken, if any. The police are investigating the possibility of ketamine in his body at the time of his death.
