The Primrose Hill set were famous for their wild parties, scandals and relationships over the years, but where are the legendary group of NW1 and NW3 now?
Famed for their wild lifestyles, the Primrose Hill Set dominated the headlines in the Nineties. In a quiet, leafy enclave of North London lived the most notorious of celebs, often being caught falling out of clubs and bars. The Primrose Hill Set were the original “It club”.
Made up of the likes of Sadie Frost, her ex-husband Jude Law, Liam Gallagher, Patsy Kensit, Noel Gallagher, Meg Mathews, Kate Moss, and Davinia Taylor, they were never far away from the cameras.
Joined by a shared strong liking for a hedonistic lifestyle, the group, made up of actors, models and musicians, all enjoyed the wild times of the Britpop era. However, with the highs came the extreme lows. The group, who have now separated and moved to various parts of the country, have since battled addiction, rehab stints and their fair share of feuds.
But as Patsy Kensit prepares to return to Emmerdale as iconic villain Sadie King, we take a look back at where the legendary group are now.
Patsy Kensit
At just 26, Patsy’s life came crashing down after the death of her mother. This, she says, ignited seven years of “bad things” for the star. Speaking previously, she said she endured: “Seven years of sex, drugs, infidelity, failed marriages – you name it, there were periods in my life when I was doing recreational bad things.”
Patsy first married in 1988, tying the knot with Big Audio Dynamite star Dan Donovan – but their marriage was short-lived, ending in 1991. Along came Scottish singer Jim Kerr, whom she married in 1992, before they welcomed her eldest child, James. Just four years later, though, their marriage came crashing down.
But her third wedding, to Oasis rocker Liam Gallagher, attracted the headlines thanks to their wild ways, as well as public disputes. They tied the knot at Marylebone Town Hall in April 1997 and instantly became one of the most recognisable couples of the Britpop era – often referred to as the President and First Lady of Britpop.
So when Patsy fell pregnant with their son, it was only right that he was named after John Lennon. However, their marriage came to an end in 2000 after Liam’s infidelities, including fathering a child with another woman. Tying the knot in April 2009 with DJ Jeremy Healy, Patsy went on to become known as Patsy Kensit-Healy – but a year later, they divorced.
After turning her back on her wild ways, Patsy sought treatment for drugs and alcohol, with her spokesperson saying in 2002: “She has been taking therapy from Narcotics Anonymous for drugs and alcohol but has been clean now for almost a year. The therapy is ongoing.”
Now, after two decades away, Patsy is returning to Emmerdale and rather than excitement, the actress was utterly terrified. She told the Mirror: “I was shaking like a leaf, it’s been a long time. I’ve done so much work in between, but this… I phoned up Mark Charnock, actually, who plays Marlon Dingle.
“I told him, ‘I’m really scared,’ and he said it would be weird if I wasn’t, and that it’s only because I care. But I’m in the swing of things now, and I’m definitely settling in.”
Kate Moss
Original supermodel Kate is perhaps the most recognisable from the Primrose Hill Set. At just 14, she was posing for magazines and working for Calvin Klein before becoming synonymous with the Nineties heroin-chic fashion look.
And along with her fame came famous boyfriends. Most famously, actor Johnny Depp, whom she dated between 1994 and 1997. So it’s no surprise that she found herself embracing the north London party scene after splitting from Depp.
It’s claimed that during her wild days, Kate enjoyed rendezvous with the likes of Liam Gallagher and even Leonardo DiCaprio. But several years later, she found herself caught in scandals.
In the mid-2000s, Moss was engaged to The Libertines and Babyshambles frontman, Pete Doherty, who was known for using drugs. Je was once pictured smoking heroin in the presence of Kate.
In 2005, the Mirror published the pictures, as well as images of Kate snorting cocaine. Her scandal sent shockwaves through the fashion industry, with high-end brands including Burberry and Chanel, as well as H&M, dropping Kate from their books.
By 2006, after a stint in rehab, Kate was once again one of the most in-demand models of her generation. And to this day, she remains one of the most successful models and has since launched her own modelling agency.
Sadie Frost
Model and actress Sadie Frost was at the centre of the legendary group after marrying Jude Law in 1997. But by 2002, Sadie, now 61, hit the headlines for the wrong reasons.
Aged just two at the time, her daughter Iris was taken to the hospital after accidentally swallowing part of an ecstasy tablet found on the floor at a swanky members’ bar. The pair had been attending a friend’s son’s birthday party when the terrifying incident unfolded.
Speaking previously to the Evening Standard, Sadie said: “On the end of her tongue was a small grey tablet with a line through it. It had partially dissolved in her mouth, but there was enough left for me to grab it.
“The pill was taken away to be analysed, and it wasn’t until the next morning that they confirmed that it had indeed been an ecstasy tablet.” Nowadays, Sadie’s life couldn’t be further from her wild ways. Instead, she’s now a vegetarian and often practises yoga on her social media.
She’s also transitioned to work behind the camera as a director and producer. In July this year, Frost was one of seven famous faces who lost a High Court privacy case against Associated Newspapers.
Meg Mathews
Known for her wild ways, breast enhancement surgery and nipple piercing, Meg was a staple in the headlines back in the day. She tied the knot with Oasis legend Noel Gallagher in 1997, and it’s fair to say their marriage was anything but quiet and relaxed.
So much so that Noel joked he used to sprinkle cocaine onto his cornflakes of a morning. Their relationship was so Rock ‘N’ Roll that Noel penned the Oasis anthem, Wonderwall, for Meg on a rainy Tuesday night. Back in 1996, he said: “It’s about my girlfriend, Meg Mathews. She had a company which folded and she was feeling a bit sorry for herself. The sentiment is that there was no point in her feeling down, she has to sort my life out for me because I’m in bits had the time.”
However, in 2002, Noel did a complete U-turn and insisted Wonderwall actually had nothing to do with Meg. He said: “The meaning of that song was taken away from me by the media who jumped on it, and how do you tell your missus it’s not about her once she’s read it is? It’s a song about an imaginary friend who’s gonna come and save you from yourself.”
Meg even commented about the backtrack. In 2005, she said: “All of a sudden, when I was getting divorced, he said it wasn’t about me, so I don’t really understand.”
Just four years after marrying, though, the couple parted ways following the birth of their daughter, Anais. Meg later spent two months in rehab, saying: “I was drinking too much and it wasn’t having a good effect on me.” Nowadays, though, she’s a keen animal rights campaigner and often uses her social media platform to raise awareness of animal welfare organisations.
She and Noel appear to be good friends, too, with Meg attending several of the Oasis Live ’25 dates last year, documenting her travels on social media.
Davinia Taylor
Toilet roll heiress Davinia was known to millions thanks to her work on Hollyoaks – and her dad having a £200m empire. But her life was very much like a soap opera, with even crazier storylines.
The actress, born in Wigan, married David Beckham’s close friend Dave Gardner, and their home became the scene of some of the wildest parties in NW1. But as their marriage crumbled in 2019, so did Davinia’s wild ways.
She turned her back on partying and now lives an organic lifestyle. In a candid interview last year, she said: “I was drinking, I was knackered, had a hangover. I think everyone was in their 20s.” She went on to add to the Daily Mail: “I mean, all my mates were partying exactly the same, and every one of my friends drank more than me, but they’re just not lucky enough to be an alcoholic.
“So they’re still in the grey area, they still have a hangover on a Monday. That’s grey area drinking. So I’m pretty lucky to have gone sober at 30. So my 20s were – everyone’s chaotic – but my 30s, 40s, 50s onwards, it’s been easy.”
The birth of her son made her realise that being hungover, with a child, was far from fun – so she packed in the booze. Her dramatic life change has been that efficient, she has the biological age of a 20-year-old, despite being two years off her 50th birthday. She also runs her own natural food supplements brand, WillPowders, sourcing some of the finest ingredients from across the globe.
But while the Primrose Hill set has dispersed, they’re still good friends with one another. Last year, Sadie and Kate attended the Oasis tour with Meg, while Davinia also previously said she’s still pals with Sadie and Meg.
