Kalaburagi : A prisoner at the Kalaburagi Central Prison who remained behind bars due to inability to pay a court-imposed fine walked free after a local organisation stepped in to pay Rs 18,000 on humanitarian grounds.

According to prison authorities, convict prisoner Ramesh, son of Shivaraya Kalagurti had continued to remain in prison because of his inability to pay the fine imposed in his case. Officials said the prisoner belonged to an economically weak background and had no means to mobilise the amount required for his release.

The matter was noticed by in-charge Chief Superintendent Rakesh Kamble, who contacted the local organisation Jamiat Ulama Society Kalaburagi seeking assistance for payment of the fine amount.

Responding positively, members of the organisation paid the entire fine amount of Rs 18,000, helping secure the prisoner’s release.

Representatives of the organisation, including Mohammed Sharif, Mohammed Wajid, Syed Sadiq and Zakiuddin, were present during the payment process. Jail officials Sagar Patil and Shrimantgouda Patil, chief warden Saleem Mulla and teacher Nagaraj Moolage also attended the programme.

The prison department appreciated the organisation for extending assistance to financially distressed prisoners and helping them secure release after completion of their sentence period.
