Hyderabad: The HMWSSB has imposed a penalty of ₹1 lakh on a private establishment for releasing treated wastewater of sewage treatment plant onto roads. The board in a release said that during inspections conducted on June 26, its officials found that a commercial establishment on Road No. 82 in Jubilee Hills was releasing treated water onto a public road. The discharge led to water stagnation, inconvenience to commuters, traffic disruption and unhygienic conditions.
HMWS&SB issued a statutory notice to the management, directing it to stop the discharge and ensure that the treated wastewater was reused in accordance with the prescribed norms. The establishment was also instructed to submit a compliance report within 48 hours. The Board warned that failure to pay the fine within three days would attract additional penalties, besides suspension of water supply and sewerage services and other legal actions.
