Paris Saint-Germain‘s Ligue 1 game with Lyon has been rescheduled due to the unrest in Paris.
The game was originally scheduled to take place on Sunday at 8:45pm local time at the Parc des Princes.
However, it has now been moved to 8:30pm on Monday following a decree from the Paris Police Prefecture.
A statement from the French Professional Football League (LFP) read: “The LFP takes note of the police decree prohibiting the staging of the game between Paris Saint-Germain and Olympique Lyonnais on Sunday at 8:45pm and has decided to reschedule the match for Monday at 8:30pm.”
The change will mean the game clashes with the Ballon d’Or ceremony, which is being held in London on Monday. PSG’s away game at Marseille last year was moved to a Monday due to storms, meaning it clashed with the Ballon d’Or ceremony in Paris, where the top prize was won by the capital club’s star forward Ousmane Dembele.
Police in Paris are moving resources elsewhere in preparation for another weekend of unrest in Paris and across France.
Violence broke out alongside protests over the cost of living last week, leading authorities to order partial curfews in Paris and other French cities.
Laurent Nunez, France’s interior minister, confirmed on Friday that around 70,000 security personnel will be deployed across France this weekend in anticipation of further violence.
Though the PSG game has been moved, the first NFL regular-season fixture to be staged in France will go ahead as planned.
The New Orleans Saints are set to face the Pittsburgh Steelers at the Stade de France in Saint-Denis in the northern outskirts of Paris. That game is scheduled to kick off at 2:30pm local time on Sunday.
