HYDERABAD: Residents of Punjagutta Housing Board Colony have complained of encroachment on land earmarked for a public park. They alleged that unauthorised construction was taking place, including by a nearby temple.
In a complaint to HYDRAA, residents said portions of the park land and adjoining public road were being occupied without permission from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC).
Residents said the land was originally designated for public use and open space, but unauthorised construction had reduced the area and created civic issues within the colony.
“We are only asking that public land meant for the community be protected. The park belongs to the residents and should not be occupied by anyone,” a resident said.
They recalled that attempts to encroach the land date back to 1998, when pillars were raised but stopped on the intervention of the authorities.
In 2025, GHMC wrote to Punjagutta police after inspecting the site, noting unauthorised construction and asking police to keep vigil.
HYDRAA officials confirmed receiving information and said an investigation would be conducted and action taken.
