Raakh, the thriller series starring Ali Fazal, has left people shocked and heartbroken. Directed by Prosit Roy, Raakh is inspired by a real-life murder that took place at the heart of New Delhi in the 1970s. While people couldn’t stop praising young actors, Divya Sharma and Vivaan Sharma, who played the victims, ‘Suman’ and ‘Sahil’, they have been criticising Akash Makhija and Ramandeep Yadav, who played the antagonists, ‘Babu’ and ‘Rajjo’. In a recent interview, Akash broke his silence on receiving death threats after the show’s release.
Akash Makhija receives death threats after Raakh‘s release
Raakh, the new series, has been generating strong reactions from its viewers since its release on Amazon Prime. Akash Makhija, who played the antagonist, ‘Babu’ has been receiving mixed reactions for his portrayal. While a section of social media users is praising him for his gruesome character portrayal, another section is taking it very seriously and criticising him for the following. Due to this, he has also been receiving death threats. Speaking to Zoom, Akash said:
“When I watch myself on screen, I am very critical of my work. I can’t evaluate myself. The audience reviewing my work is the biggest thing for me. Whenever I open my Instagram DM, I see people want to kill me. Death threat se pata nahi kya kya aa raha hai. The audience has accepted Babu. I am aware he’s the most hated character in the nation. Some messages even read that when Jayprakash (played by Ali Fazal) was beating him, we were cheering.”

Akash Makhija opens up about his character, ‘Babu’, in Raakh
In another interview with IANS, Akash explained that the character, ‘Babu’, that he played in the series, Raakh, is a narcissist. According to Akash, ‘Babu’ has a main character energy. In fact, ‘Babu’ is very adamant. Whenever he wants something, he just hunts it. Akash added that not even once did he consider sympathising with his character, ‘Babu’. Akash was quoted as saying:
“He is a narcissist, and he believes that, you know, the world revolves around him. And he has the ‘main character energy’, I feel. And whatever he thinks the people around him are, they are just a small part of his own story. And he’ll take what he wants, and he’ll just hunt for it. So, I mean, that was the brief I had in my mind. For Babu, I felt that he’ll ask for it and if he doesn’t get it, he’ll take it. So, not even once, I think that I should sympathise with the character.”

Further in the interview, Akash mentioned that portraying ‘Babu’ was not difficult as the script had a detailed information about the character. Akash shared that apart from the script, he had some observations. Recalling a terrific incident that took place in a government school, Akash said:
“I grew up in a government boys’ school. And I’ve seen brutal things happening in my own class. I’ve seen people scratching each other with tools in the geometry box. I’ve seen a lot of such things happening in schools. I think also from the world out, because these characters are also part of the society. I don’t know if it still exists. When I was growing up, I was in boys’ school and I’ve seen so many brutal things, I can’t even talk about it.”
