Rachel Stevens has found the perfect pair of petite barrel leg jeans that she says are ‘perfection’ for short shoppers, and they cost just £30 from the high street

Standing at just five foot one inch, Rachel Stevens is the perfect person to give petite fashion recommendations. Jeans can be one of the trickiest pieces to shop for when you’re petite, but Rachel has solved that problem with a pair of high street barrel leg jeans that she says are “perfection” for those on the shorter side.

Rachel praised Marks & Spencer’s Mid Rise Barrel Jeans on Instagram, saying: “These @marksandspencer barrel jeans are such a great flattering shape. I go for size 8 short for reference and the length for us petites is perfection.”

Like most of M&S jeans and trousers, the Mid Rise Barrel Jeans come in a variety of leg lengths, including extra short, short/petite, regular, long and extra long, giving all shoppers the chance to pick up a pair that fit just right. They also come in sizes six to 24 and nine different colours, giving you plenty of options.

You can choose from multiple different blue denim shades, with Rachel opting for the indigo mix colourway, which is a deep, dark shade of blue. Although this shade instantly elevates the jeans, making them look smart and sophisticated, you can also pick from summery shades like light blue, ecru and blush pink, as well as classic colours like white, mid-blue and black.

A barrel leg silhouette has been steadily becoming one of the top trending denim shapes, and although it can be a bit of a marmite choice, these Mid Rise Barrel Jeans prove it can be both cool and flattering when done well. The mid-rise keeps the proportion just right – a low rise will make the legs look too squat and bow-legged, whilst a super high rise makes your torso look shorter with too much volume on the bottom.

They also have just the right amount of structure, keeping their shape without looking cartoonish, which makes them look much more expensive than their £30 price tag. A barrel shape also gives you extra room in the hips, bum and thighs, making it easier to get a perfect fit around the waist.

Another brand that’s nailed the barrel leg style is Abercrombie & Fitch, with its Mid Rise Barrel Jean which is now on sale for £39.99, down from £75. There are seven different colourways to pick from, and there’s the option of short, regular or long lengths to suit all heights.

For a slightly slimmer cut, ASOS’ Slim Barrel Jeans are also on sale, with nine different colourways offered with various discounts. They also come in multiple sizes and length combinations, making it easy to find a fit that suits you.

However the M&S Mid Rise Barrel Jeans that Rachel recommended have been well praised by shoppers, too. With over 1000 five star ratings, it’s safe to say the style is a hit, with shoppers saying they’re buying them in multiple different colourways.

One wrote: “Barrel style trousers are not normally my first choice but I am so pleased with these. The fit is perfect and they are some comfortable to wear.”

With another adding: “Fab jeans, first I’ve found in years that fit perfectly and are comfortable. So much so am about to buy the Leopard ones too.”

The sizing was the main gripe for shoppers, with one person writing: “Not sure what’s going on with M&S sizing?? Why is all the jeans coming up so small? Losing trust with ordering online as having to send so much back!”

And another agreeing: “Really nice jeans but deducted 2 stars as had to size up, I have bought jeans in M&S for years and have always been the same size, what’s going on with your sizing M&S?!”

But others loved the fit and shape of the Mid Rise Barrel Jeans, saying: “Wasn’t sure about a barrel leg, but these convinced me. May have to get another pair in a different colour.”
