Rahul Dravid is set to return to the Rajasthan Royals as head coach for the 2025 IPL season, following his successful stint with the Indian national team that culminated in winning the T20 World Cup 2024. Currently on a brief career break after India’s victory in Barbados in June, Dravid is expected to start working with the Royals soon, focusing on player retention and preparations for the upcoming auction.
Sources indicate that discussions about his appointment are in the final stages, and he will soon officially take on the head coach role. Kumar Sangakkara, who has been the Royals’ Director of Cricket since 2021, will continue in his position but will shift his focus to the franchise’s operations in other leagues, including the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) and SA20.
Dravid has a long history with the Royals, having captained the team in 2012 and 2013, and later serving as a mentor. He also has a strong rapport with current captain Sanju Samson, who is expected to be retained for another season. Additionally, former Indian batting coach Vikram Rathour may join the franchise as an assistant coach, further enhancing the coaching staff as they prepare for the upcoming season.
