Warangal: Heavy rain on Sunday evening brought much-needed relief to Warangal, which had been reeling under scorching heat and humid conditions for several days.
The downpour, lasting around half an hour across Warangal, Hanumakonda and Kazipet, brought down temperatures and made the weather pleasant.
Residents welcomed the showers, which marked the first significant rainfall in the city this season.
People had been struggling with intense heat and humidity, while groundwater levels in urban areas continued to decline, forcing borewells to be drilled deeper.
Although occasional showers had occurred in the city outskirts and agency areas, urban stretches had largely remained dry.
Sunday’s rainfall has raised hopes of some recharge of groundwater levels, offering relief beyond the immediate change in weather.
However, the heavy downpour left several major roads waterlogged.
The Hanumakonda bus stand area, in particular, resembled a lake as rainwater accumulated.
Waterlogging in several localities disrupted vehicular movement and triggered traffic jams.
Meanwhile, children and youngsters stepped out to enjoy the showers, getting drenched in the rain.
Cool breezes continued to blow even after the downpour stopped, adding to the pleasant weather.
Though brief, the rainfall came as a welcome respite for residents who had been waiting for rain for several days.
