Rumours about a potential collaboration between Rajkumar Hirani and Ranbir Kapoor have been circulating for quite some time. Speculation suggested that the duo was working on a project based on the life of an athlete, with some reports even claiming the film had been delayed until 2027 due to scheduling issues and script development.
However, Hirani has now officially addressed these claims, putting the speculation to rest. Speaking to News18, the director clarified the current state of his work. He confirmed, “No, I’m not making anything with Ranbir at the moment. But I would love to work with him again.”
Hirani expressed amusement at how these reports often surface without any factual basis. On the viral rumours, he shared, “I did read reports that we’re doing a film. Many a times, I look at newspapers and come to know of the films I’m making, which makes me wonder ki abb yeh kahan se aaya (laughs)!”
Rajkumar Hirani and Ranbir Kapoor previously collaborated on the highly successful 2018 biopic Sanju, based on the life of Sanjay Dutt. While they are not working together currently, Hirani’s remarks leave the door open for a potential future association.
As Hirani moves forward with his current professional commitments, he also provided an update on his other projects. He confirmed that sequels to his beloved franchises, 3 Idiots and Munna Bhai, are currently in development. When asked about the timelines for these projects, he shared that their production depends entirely on the scriptwriting phase. He said, “It’s all in the writing stage at the moment. Both the films will happen. But it all depends on when the scripts are ready.” Meanwhile, Hirani is preparing for his upcoming OTT debut, Pritam And Pedro, which will premiere on JioHotstar on July 3. This project holds personal significance, as it marks the screen debut of his son, Vir Hirani.
