Soundarya Rajinikanth talked about her idea of love and equality in relationships as she is promoting her recent web series, #Love. On Nayandeep Rakshit’s YouTube channel, she talked about her first divorce from Ashwin Ramkumar. She revealed that it was her parents, Rajinikanth and Latha, who helped her during the lowest phase of her life.
Soundarya also talked about having grown up in a male-dominated household and how things have changed now. Talking about it, Soundarya revealed that back in those days, it was male-dominated homes, and hers was no different. She added that things have changed in her parents’ home as well. She said:
“To be honest, we grew up in a generation where it was probably male-dominated at home. That’s the truth. But it’s changing. It’s changing with my parents now, not earlier. As you grow older, the concept of companionship and love also changes.”
Soundarya further revealed that her idea of love had changed from when she was 20 to now. She stated that as a parent, she has realised not to blame her parents for anything, as she understands that they were growing up as she did. However, for her and her husband, things are equal at home.
Soundarya also talked about her failed marriage and how it was her parents who helped her. She revealed that they were her rock as she navigated the toughest phase of her life. Soundarya also shared that it was due to them that she never stopped believing in the institution of marriage. Soundarya said:
“For a girl, the first man in her life is her father. And the first friend she has is her mother. And that gets stronger as children grow up. In my difficult times, my parents stood like a rock. I couldn’t have done it without them. When my first marriage failed, it did not make me stop believing in the institution of marriage. It was just a wrong relationship. So when I came out of that, I took my time to heal, but I couldn’t wait to be back in that institution. Because I believe in it. I’m very happy to be married again.”
Soundarya also said that when a woman leaves a bad marriage and gets divorced, society judges her. People question her when she decides to remarry. But for men, it is not a big deal. She added that there are a lot of things expected from women just because they are multitaskers and the opposite gender takes everything else for granted.
For the unversed, Soundarya was earlier married to Ashwin Ram Kumar. The ex-couple also has a baby, whom they have named Ved. After seven years of marriage, Soundarya decided to part ways. Later, Soundarya found her ‘Mister Right’ in Vishagan Vanangamudi! On February 11, 2019, Soundarya exchanged wedding vows with Vishagan Vanangamudi in a grand ceremony. And on September 11, 2022, the couple announced the arrival of their first child.
