After years of anticipation, director Ram’s ambitious fantasy drama Yezhu Kadal Yezhu Malai has finally locked its theatrical release date. The makers announced on Monday that the film will hit cinemas on October 1, unveiling a fresh glimpse that offers audiences another peek into the filmmaker’s mysterious new world.
An Unusual Journey Takes Shape
Known for crafting deeply philosophical and emotionally layered stories in films such as Kattradhu Thamizh, Thanga Meengal, Taramani and Peranbu, Ram appears to be venturing into unfamiliar territory with Yezhu Kadal Yezhu Malai. While his signature introspective storytelling remains evident, the film promises an unusual blend of fantasy, drama and dark humour.
The story revolves around an 8000-year-old immortal, portrayed by Nivin Pauly, whose seemingly endless existence takes an unexpected turn after he crosses paths with an ordinary 32-year-old man, played by Soori. Their meeting aboard a moving train sets off a chain of bizarre and unpredictable events, with even a rat becoming an unlikely participant in the unfolding chaos. The newly released glimpse hints at the film’s offbeat tone without giving away too much of its larger mystery.
Anjali, who was recently seen in Ram’s Paranthu Po alongside Shiva, Grace Antony and Aju Varghese, plays one of the film’s central characters. The actress reunites with the filmmaker once again, continuing a creative association that has already delivered memorable performances.
A Significant Return For Nivin Pauly
Yezhu Kadal Yezhu Malai also marks an important milestone in Nivin Pauly’s career. The Malayalam star returns to Tamil cinema after nearly eight years, having last headlined Richie in 2017. Over the years, Nivin has largely focused on Malayalam projects, but this collaboration with Ram has remained one of the most anticipated films in his lineup ever since it was first announced.
The actor has already had two releases this year with Baby Girl and Prathichaya, and has several interesting projects lined up. Among them is Bakkiyaraj Kannan’s Benz, which also stars Raghava Lawrence.
Soori, meanwhile, continues to strengthen his position as a leading actor after successfully transitioning from comedy to emotionally driven lead roles. Fresh from Maaman, he will also be seen in Mandaadi, adding another performance-driven project to his growing filmography.
As with many of Ram’s films, music plays a significant role in shaping the emotional landscape of the narrative. Long-time collaborator Yuvan Shankar Raja has composed the soundtrack for Yezhu Kadal Yezhu Malai, continuing one of Tamil cinema’s most enduring director-composer partnerships. Behind the camera, cinematographer NK Ekhambaram handles the visuals, while Mathi VS serves as editor. Action sequences have been choreographed by Silva.
The film is produced by Suresh Kamatchi under the V House Productions banner. Over the years, the project has generated considerable curiosity following its festival screenings, where it drew attention for its unconventional narrative and visual ambition. With a theatrical release date now officially in place, audiences will finally get to experience one of Tamil cinema’s most intriguing long-delayed films on the big screen this October.
