Ramayana is not just an epic but a sentiment shared by millions of Indians and devotees of ‘Shri Ram’. The story of sacrifice, responsibilities and a love that forced the ‘Sea God’ to pave the way. While fans are abuzz with excitement, there is also a certain concern about bringing the revered story to the big screen. However, amid the wait, Faisal Malik, who will be seen in the role of ‘Khubhakaran’, has revealed that his character’s look was inspired by someone from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Ramayana‘s ‘Khubhakaran’ took inspiration from a character from the Marvel Cinematic Universe
We have seen giants on screen in several fantasy franchises. However, there has been one character that is seen as the definition of “brute strength” on the big screen. The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s character is often seen as a synonym for strength, and the superhero is none other than ‘Hulk’. However, one such character also exists in Indian mythology, not so much as a hero, but as an asura named ‘Khubhakaran’, and now the makers of Ramayana seem to combine both.

In a recent interview with Variety India, Faisal Malik, who will be seen in the role of ‘Khubhakaran’, opened up about his role in Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana. The trailer of the film gave a good glimpse of the massive asura. According to the epic, ‘Khubhakaran’ is described as 600 bows in height, which could imply a height of 1800-2400 feet. Talking about transforming into the behemoth, Faisal said:
“We have all seen the Hulk and how Mark Ruffalo becomes the big green guy. That is a reference for me when I started imagining how I would look.”
Faisal Malik, who rose to fame for playing ‘Prahlad Cha’ in Panchayat, revealed that ‘Khubhakaran’ was his highest profile role so far. Talking about the experience, he revealed that it was a dream come true for him. He shared that it felt like “sheer luck”. However, it didn’t come without its own set of challenges. Faisal admitted that playing ‘Khubhakaran’ was a completely different universe for him. He was quoted as saying:
“My experience of playing Kumbhakarna in Ramayana is a dream come true. We grew up watching Ramayana, so playing a character from it feels like sheer luck. The challenge here is that this world is completely different for me. He isn’t a normal human; he’s massive, and he was in a deep sleep for six months. To keep all of that in mind and derive a final output is a tricky part.”
