BENGALURU: On the direction of High Court of Karnataka in April directing Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh to tender an apology at Chamundeshwari Temple, atop Chamundi Hill in Mysuru within four weeks over his mimicry of Goddess depicted in Kannada movie “Kantara Chapter 1,” Ranveer Singh visited Chamundi Hill. “Kantara Chapter 1” was a big hit.
It may be recalled Ranveer Singh delivered a speech at the 55th International Film Festival of India held in Goa which got him into trouble wherein he referred the depiction of Goddess Chamundeshwari as a “ghost” and mimicked Kannada actor Rishab Shetty who played the main role in the film “Kantara Chapter1.”
High Grounds police of Bengaluru city registered a First Information Report against the Bollywood actor and he was framed under Sections 196 (religious enmity), 299 (religious insult) and 302 (public insult) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
On Tuesday, Ranveer Singh visited Chamundi Temple at the Hills and sat at the entrance of the sanctum sanctorum and prayed to the Goddess with folded hands.
Earlier, Ranveer Singh moved the High Court to quash FIR registered against him in Bengaluru and the High Court wanted Ranveer Singh to apologise first at the Chamundi Temple. The High Court said it will pass appropriate orders to close Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh’s mimicry of a deity’s depiction case after recording Singh’s apology.
