The decision came after Rice tested positive for THC, the psychoactive compound found in marijuana. The probation was tied to his 2024 Dallas crash case, which has already kept him in legal trouble for months. According to Dallas County jail records, Rice was booked on Monday afternoon and was ordered to serve 30 days in jail. The timing is important for the Chiefs because Rice is now expected to miss organised team activities and minicamp ahead of the 2026 NFL season.

Rashee Rice jailed after THC test violation in Dallas probation case

The latest issue adds another difficult chapter to Rashee Rice’s ongoing legal situation. Court records from Dallas County showed that the wide receiver violated the conditions of his probation after testing positive for THC. The court then ordered him to return to jail for 30 days. The probation itself was connected to Rice’s 2024 car crash case in Dallas. That incident brought major attention around the NFL because several people were injured after a high-speed crash involving vehicles connected to Rice. Since then, the Chiefs receiver has remained under close public and legal scrutiny.

On Monday, May 18, 2026, jail records showed that Rice was officially booked into custody at around 1:25 p.m. local time. As of now, neither the Kansas City Chiefs nor Rice’s representatives have released a public statement about the latest development. Even with the jail sentence, Rice is expected to be released on June 16, 2026. That means he should still have time to rejoin the team before the start of the regular season. 

Kansas City opens its 2026 season against the Denver Broncos in Week 1, so the Chiefs still have several weeks to prepare with him after training camp begins. Still, the situation is not ideal for Kansas City. Rice has become an important part of the offence, and missing offseason work could affect his preparation and chemistry with quarterback, Patrick Mahomes. Rashee Rice still dealing with his ex-girlfriend, Dacoda Jones civil lawsuit

Away from the probation case, Rashee Rice is also dealing with a separate civil lawsuit filed by his former girlfriend, Dacoda Jones. The lawsuit seeks USD 1 million in damages and includes several serious accusations connected to incidents that allegedly happened between 2023 and 2025. According to court filings, Jones accused Rice of “grabbed, choked, strangled, pushed, thrown, scratched, hit, and headbutted” her during their relationship. Rice’s legal team has denied the allegations.

The NFL also looked into the accusations, but the league reportedly did not move forward with disciplinary action because there was not enough evidence available at the time. Later developments in the case added another twist when Rice’s attorney pointed to an affidavit from Jones that reportedly stated Rice did not punch her. For now, Rice remains active in multiple legal battles while also trying to continue his NFL career.
